This is just A W E S O M E ! :D
There are characters you like but then there are characters you end up thinking about in the middle of the night with a cosmic ache in your chest because they resonate with you so much

my girlfriend wanted more than the amount of children you can adopt in skyrim so she taught herself how to mod it so that you could adopt them all, and uploaded it to a skyrim modding community so other likeminded player could utilize her code.
months later, an update was added to skyrim that was basically her code, verbatim, lifted directly from the mod, without credit or even permission. this made her so angry that she, at age seventeen, booked a flight to maryland, went to bethesda headquarters and demanded to see todd himself to yell at him.
of course, she was immediately denied this request and escorted out of the building because she was a scary six foot seventeen year old canadian lesbian who had flown all the way to yell at a man who probably had no idea her code was stolen, but she is still legitimately, 100% furious with him to this day
i fucking love her.
for the self-conscious beginner: No one makes great things until the world intimately knows their mediocrity. Don’t think of your writing as terrible; think of it as preparing to contribute something great.
for the self-conscious late bloomer: Look at old writing as how far you’ve come. You can’t get to where you are today without covering all that past ground. For that, be proud.
for the perfectionist: Think about how much you complain about things you love—the mistakes and retcons in all your favorite series—and how you still love them anyway. Give yourself that same space.
for the realist: There will be people who hate your story even if it’s considered a classic. But there will be people who love your story, even if it is strange and unpopular.
for the fanfic writer: Your work isn’t lesser for not following canon. When you write, you’ve created a new work on its own. It can
be, but does not have to be, limited by the source material. Canon is not the
end-all, be-all.
for the writer’s blocked: It doesn’t need to be perfect. Sometimes you have to move on and commit a few writing sins if it means you can create better things out of it.
for the lost: You started writing for a reason; remember that
reason. It’s ok to move on. You are more than your writing. It will be here if you want to come back.
THANKS VIO THIS’LL HELP
thank you so much babe
i love how theres a specific meme niche for frankenstein like imagine if mary shelley, in 1818, had known that 200 years later thered be thousands to millions of people roasting victor through bad grammer and cat pics on what is arguably an alternate visual dimension (and that a daughter of her slutty slutty friend would contribute to the development of said alternate visual dimension)
when your friend is being really great and sweet but you’re too far away to hug them so you’re just kind of like ♥\ò~ó/♥
Everyone is panicking over TOS-es right now as they find a new home as Tumblr gets flushed down the toilet. I don’t like those random TOS breakdowns because the analysis is always wrong.
Anyway this is what people pay me to do and I will now do it for $0 because I’m tired of everyone spreading misinformation. This post is not a substitute for legal advice etc. Reblogs are appreciated because I literally see TOS nonsense on my dash every day.
Any more experienced copyright lawyers please feel free to weigh in - it’s part of my field yes, but my wheelhouse is more film production COT rather than derivative works.
Google Drive (TOS)
deviantART (Submission Policy) (TOS)
AO3 (TOS)
Wordpress (TOS)
Dreamwidth (TOS)
Hope this helps. Feel free to force me to read and explain any other site TOS documents. Again, more experienced copyright lawyers, feel free to correct me if I clowned up somewhere.
I contacted Wordpress regarding posting NSFW imagery (art depicting sexual acts, etc) and they said it was acceptable so long as the blog is marked as NSFW/mature.
So the Weasleys are the rare pureblood family that actually keeps some sort of track of their squibs, right?
Like, 11-year-old Ron knows he has a cousin who’s an accountant, even though he’s aware that it’s vaguely shameful.
So please consider: one of the businesses Fred and George ran out of their back room, in the early days after the Ministry fell, was creating fake family trees for Muggle-Borns.
Weasleys are already known to have enormous families, what’s one or two extra a generation or two back?
(Aunt Muriel is awful, but in the face of Muggleborn Registration, absolutely she’ll admit to having a couple of squib children she doesn’t mention in polite company, because who would, but she’s delighted to learn that magic resurfaced in their grandchildren, why are the men from the Ministry frowning when they deliver such wonderful news, and they can d**n well keep their boots off the carpet. A couple of Muggleborns the Twins kept out of trouble that way sent Aunt Muriel half-joking mothers’ day cards until the day she died.)
Something that I really like about The Good Place is that at times it feels like fanfiction. It has that element of taking the same characters and placing them in a reality in which something is different to see what changes about their thoughts and actions and what stays the same. All the different combinations and types of relationships that arise with each reboot (Jason and Janet vs. Jason and Tahani, romantic Eleanor and Chidi vs. platonic Eleanor and Chidi, even mention of a reboot where Eleanor and Tahani were soulmates) totally remind me of fans rewriting the canon to get their ships together. Heck, the most recent season is basically “AU where the characters never died.” You get to see that comparison of “what ifs” whereas in most shows there’s only one canon that they stick to, and I find that so appealing and fun.
The Good Place is 802 AUs in a trenchcoat
i hate this so much but this knowledge is too powerful to keep from you all.
last night @phaltu discovered that setting your font to comic sans in google docs improves writing speed and creativity by an insane amount. “no” i said and “die” but then i tried it and god. i wish it wasn’t this way. i wish it wasn’t true. i wish i could protect you all from this but it’s real.
something about this font is so disarming. something about this font lets you look past the shape of the words and into their soul. i’ve never written so much as i did last night, on my phone, at 2am, in comic sans.
if you have writer’s block. if you lack inspiration. if you need this. don’t be afraid to use it. sometimes the things we find most horrifying are also the things we need the most. trust me. let comic sans into your life.
im trying to be authentic and true to myself but she’s very elusive which is sexy but hard to work with
